We said our goodbyes, cast off the lines and left Boot Key Harbor at 8:00 a.m. sharp. The winds were forecast to be 10 - 15 knots with wave heights of 2-4 ft. As we exited Sister's Creek and pulled out into Hawks Channel we knew the weather predictions were wrong, as usual. We were taking 15 - 20 knot winds with 4-6 foot waves right on our nose. We did this for about 10 miles then made a slight Northerly turn, which put the wave action on our starboard bow. Not very comfy. After another 45 minutes of this we made the decision to turn back and wait until tomorrow to leave, depending on the weather. Had we stayed on course, once we made our next turn, towards Miami, the waves would have been hitting directly on our starboard side, making the boat roll side to side more than my comfort level was willing to take. But, I guess we could have endured the ride for another 6 hours or so, but why? We are not on a schedule and have no deadlines. So we stopped on our way back for fuel and one last lunch at Burdines (which has become one of our fav places to dine, see photo above). We pulled back into our same slip around 11:45 a.m..
After answering all the "Hey, what the heck are you doing here?", and the, "Didn't you leave?" , and lets not forget the , "I thought you were leaving" questions we settled in for the night. We had an offer from Glen & Jeri that morning to leave on Friday and follow them, and another couple, and venture up the West coast where the SE winds would not be a problem, and to see a few sights along the way. So we decided to take them up on their offer.
We had a wonderful dinner with Clark & Paula at the Dockside Grille (it was rib night), and said our good byes......once again.
