We were invited to spend New Years Eve with some friends at a 60's Black Light Party. We were asked to wear something we could get messy...didnt know what that meant..but it sounded like fun to us! When we arrived we said hello to those we knew and introduced ourselves to those we didnt. There was a huge spread of finger foods and several choices of libations....all served in dayglo cups.We made our way to the garage where the actual party was.
When I walked into the garage I was instantly taken back to the late 60's...black lights and loud music....the garage was decorated with black light posters, flourescent streamers, strobe lights, jimi hendrix music and dayglo everywhere. Patty decided to paint my hair with dayglo paint(which took several washings to get it all out) and we decorated each other with dayglo markers, stickers and blotters. Upstairs in the billiards room there were more black light posters, even glow in the dark billiard balls! It felt like our parents were going to burst in the door any second and tell us to turn the music down!
In the middle of the garage they had constructed a stripper pole for those who were more adventurous than myself. Charlie gave lessons on various moves on the pole, and I'll just leave it at that.
Roy (our host) has two Great Danes who are just the most gentle giants I have ever seen. The mom, larger of the two, was under the impression she was a lap dog, and tried repeatedly to climb up in my lap! She made it as far as her front paws and I still had to reach up at arms length to scratch her behind the ears! They even adorned dayglo tee's for the party.
Around 11:45 we all headed to the den to watch the ball drop in Times Square.Everyone was handed a glass of bubbly while we tuned in to Dick Clark (yes he made it another year, looking better than he sounded)Poor guy still suffering from his stroke. Hang in there Dick!
At midnight we toasted, kissed, hugged and some of us joined in to sing Auld Lang Syne, or what we could remember of it...
It was a great way to end 2009!
