Some of our new friends, John & Debbie, Bob & Sue, are leaving in the next couple days, so we had a little Bon Voyage cocktail party for them at the Tiki hut here on the dock. Everyone brought an appetizer and a libation and we all watched the sun go down together and said our good byes.
During our little soiree Cindy's son, Christopher, was fishing off the dock when he noticed a 3 ft Nurse shark swimming around his bait. After a few minutes the shark wandered off, then he noticed the head of what appeared to be a large moray eel sticking out from under the bulk head and it grabbed his bait right off the hook! The eel never brought his entire body out so we could see how big he was, but by the size of his head, he as about 4 ft or so.
We also noticed a strange creature swimming around that no one could identify. I took photos and a short video of it and once I find out what the heck it is I will post it (I'm sending the photos and video to a website I found that identifies sea creatures). It had a head like a snail, its eyes extended out on antenna's, and it swam through the water like a silk scarf flowing in the breeze. Paula stepped into the shallow water and picked up the creature once she learned it didn't have teeth, but when she did it squirted ink at her like a squid! It was a beautiful creature, I'm really interested to find out what it is.
UPDATE ***MYSTERY SOLVED*** I received an email back, and the elusive sea creature is a type of Sea Hare Slug. If you ever need to know what something is called, the site is http://www.thejump.net/id/id-page-5.htm
Special note: It has certainly been a delight knowing and spending time with these folks. Our thanks to John for all of his help in the many projects he has been involved in, especially for the "rake" he created to help us fish our deck brush out of the water! We took John fishing where he caught his first Wahoo! It certainly was fun watching him reel that fish in. Special thanks go to Debbie for being such a delight to be around, and for her FABULOUS cakes (she made the beautiful strawberry birthday cake you saw in an earlier post) and for the many other culinary delights she made for our dock parties! Our thanks also go out to Bob and Sue for always being so nice and helping out whenever possible. Thanks to Bob for all of the Barefoot Man music he shared with us and to Sue for the wonderful culinary creations she contributed to our parties as well. Good luck with the new fishing poles & reels!
