The winds were out of the NE at 15 knots and expected to lay down by midday, not a cloud in site and the seas were 2 - 4 ft, so naturally we went fishing. Jeri, Glen, John, Chip and I left the dock around 8:30 and decided to change things a little today. We would troll first then bottom fish later. We cruised Southeast to a depth of 210 ft and started trolling. We had seven lines out and used the outriggers. Within five minutes we had a knockdown. It was a Little Tunny. We tossed him in the box and set the lines back out. Our next knockdown had some "ass" to it. Glen sat in the fighting chair and put the rod in the holder and began reeling. At one point Chip and I saw the fish jump out of the water, it was a Wahoo. About half way to the boat the fish was able to untangle itself from the hook and we lost it. After Glen set the line back out I noticed one of our reels was steadily letting line out, but very slowly. As Glen grabbed the pole, the line reached the end...thankfully he had tied a good knot in the line, so it didn't come off. Glen started reeling the line back in and after about 15 minutes asked John to take over. John reeled for another 20 minutes, then as the end got closer to the boat we noticed it had a fish on it! It was another Little Tunny, and it was so small it was hardly pulling so no one noticed he was on the hook. We tossed him back in and started trolling again. About 10 minutes later another knock down! This time it was a Wahoo measuring 52 inches and weighed 34.5 lbs! It was John's first time saltwater fishing, so we let him pull in the first fish! Nice job John! We set the lines back out and made another pass by the same area. BAM! Another knock down. This time it was Chip's turn. He pulled in a nice King Mackerel, then a few minutes later Chip pulled in a big Crevelle Jack.
It was getting a little late in the afternoon so we decided to go ahead and do some bottom fishing before heading in. We changed the poles out to get set up for bottom fishing and dropped the anchor in 70 feet of water. Within minutes we had two 'fish on'.....Glen pulled in a nice Red Grouper and Jeri hooked a beautiful Queen Parrotfish. The Parrotfish went back in the water, the Grouper went in the box. We all pulled in a few more small fish and after a while the bite turned off, so we pulled up the lines and headed in.
We were the afternoon's entertainment when we got back to the dock! The marina does not have a cleaning station, so you have to clean fish on your boat. While the guys cleaned fish I rinsed off the boat and cleaned up the cabin. At the same time we pulled in, our "lobster guy" showed up with the days catch from his pots. A few of our dock neighbors came up to see what was going on, and everyone went home with either fillets, wahoo steaks, lobsters or a combination of everything.
