We had so much fun yesterday we decided to go again today! Well, another reason was because after today the weather is not supposed to be favorable for fishing for the next 4 or 5 days. So we headed out with Glen, Jerry and Mel. We anchored on the East side of Sombrero Light where we found a drop off over the reef. We caught around 15 or 20 Yellowtail Snappers, a few Grunts, a Cero Mackerel and a few fish (?) we had to look up to identify. The pictures above are of a Parrot Fish (beautiful blue fish), a fish called a Scrawled Filefish (gray with blue spots and stripes), but the catch of the day had to be the Green Moray Eel that Chip caught. This monster was 6 ft long and full of teeth. We didn't even try and get him in the boat, eventually we cut the line just below the sinker and let it go. These creatures are green due to their blue bodies being covered with a yellow mucus (yuck), and they are very slimy. It would have slimed the entire cockpit, and probably us. He twisted himself into a knot trying to get away, and when he came up out of the water with his mouth opened all you could see were row after row of teeth!
Oh, and I can't forget the cute little "Dork Fish" I caught.....protruding mouth, buck teeth on the top and bottom. I first heard about the Dork Fish from comedian Bill Engvall... www.youtube.com/watch?v=yH6sE8RMUuU - (funny bit). Im not sure what kind of fish this really is, but he just looked like a Dork to me..........
