***Update*** Chip and I have decided we are coming home, packing our belongings, and moving back to Marathon! We made this decision just today, but have been talking about it for a while now. I know you all will miss us, but you can come visit anytime you want! We just wanted to let you know before we get home, to give you time to absorb the shock.
OK, on to today's blog entry:
We decided not to stay in Beaufort an extra day after all. The weather forecast calls for rain rain rain for the next couple days, so instead of being stuck on the boat we decided to make some headway towards home. On to Charleston! As we were coming up the St Helena River we had "Flipper" surfing our wake. The day was overcast (this is becoming a pattern) and it was drizzling with light SE winds.
We realized that taking the scenic route, the ICW, to Charleston at the snails pace we would have to cruise would not put us there before dark, so we headed out of the St Helena Inlet to the ocean. Once on the outside things changed......the winds were forecast to be 15 knots, decreasing to 10 knots in the afternoon....well it was after 1:00, that WAS the afternoon, and the winds were 15+! Gee go figure, the weatherman was wrong, again. The seas were forecast to be 3-5, but in actuality were 4-6 with the occasional 8 footer rolling by. The ride was a bit uncomfortable, but we have certainly been in worse.
I want to interject a thought here (and no smart ass comments): Ive always thought that riding in the fly bridge when the seas were even just a bit rocky would be just like the feeling of riding on the back of an elephant, like you see in the old Tarzan or African safari movies, but today's ride would be equivalent to riding on the back of an elephant who was dancing in a Conga line!!!
We fueled up and tied up at Ashley Marina in Charleston. We stayed here on our trip South and liked it because its protected from a lot of the harbor traffic.
Oh, and by the way.....APRIL FOOLS! We are not moving to Marathon..... yet.
