Kim came by the boat around 11:00 for lunch, then we headed out to run some last minute errands. On our way down the pier we noticed a small crowd gathered around a cleaning station so we wandered over. They were watching, in amazement, a guy who was cleaning a 75 lb Black Drum! Where's a camera when you need one! Well that did it, we were going fishing! We ran our errands,. went by the bait store and picked up live shrimp, clams and a few blue crabs. We put the shrimp and clams in the live well and cast off the lines around 2:30. We only had to go about 1/8 of a mile down the waterway to the fish. We set the anchor and put out four lines...tried to give the fish a little everything; shrimp on one line, clam on one and a section of blue crab on the other two. No luck here, so we pulled up the lines and the anchor and moved on. We cruised out just past the jetty's (about 2 miles from our current location) to the ocean. It was a bit sporty out there and a lot cooler due to the wind. Our stern was in the shade which made it feel another 10 degrees cooler (yea I know, what a wimp!). We hung around out there for about a half hour, didnt see anyone in the other boats catching anything so we came back in. The channel we were cruising on had Florida on one side and Georgia on the other. We also passed the house where both of the Pippy Longstocking movies were filmed.
Back at the dock, after we tied up the boat we changed and headed out to meet Charlie & Dee for dinner at Shucker's Oyster Bar & Grille (this place has a boat sticking out of the front of it!). Dinner was good, but the company even better. We said our good byes and Kim drove us back to the marina.
***Chip and I want to send out a special 'Thank You' to Charlie & Dee, for not only buying our dinner, but for giving us the jar of Bread & Butter Jalapenos and the "Professor Phardtpounders Colon Cleaner Hot Sauce" bottle says it is an "Elixer of Capsaicin Extremus"!!! It was great to see you guys and hope to again soon!
What a wonderful time we had in Fernandina Beach! Thank you all for being so nice!
